Publications Committee

Mission

To provide advice and guidance to the AGA Executive Committee and AGA Governing Board on the future directions of publications (“hard copy” and electronic) and the needs of publications, both specific and general, to facilitate achievement of their educational mission(s).

[NOTE: (1) Editors retain final responsibility for editorial policy and decisions; (2) the committee has no authority to stop a program or proposal, only to comment and issue recommendations.]

Committee Structure

The committee consists of the councillor-at-large, secretary/treasurer and three members appointed by the president-elect (after consulting with the committee chair) and ratified by the governing board. The terms of the appointed members shall be three years with one-third expiring annually. The editors of Gastroenterology, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, GI & Hepatology News and the AGA Institute Press shall serve, ex-officio, as advisors to the committee. The councillor-at-large serves as the chair of the committee and the editor of AGA Perspectives.

Committee Functions

  • To develop common strategic approaches to publishing to support the strategic plan and organizational priorities including business plans.
  • To identify common problems and opportunities and innovations in publishing and recommend approaches that are efficient and editorially and fiscally sound.
  • To review RFA’s for editors.
  • To review reports of the editorial boards to assure quality of publications and a timely and efficient manuscript review of the publishing process.

Meetings

The committee shall meet by teleconference quarterly. It may conduct a face-to-face meeting at DDW®.
