Grassroots Network
Become an AGA Advocate
The AGA plays an important role in lobbying Congressional members on important GI issues in Washington, DC. In order to achieve the best possible legislative results for gastroenterology, AGA members must become politically active on the local level. Therefore, the AGA is developing an expanded Grassroots Advocacy Program that will focus on increasing the level and effectiveness of communication between AGA members and their elected representatives. GI Advocates will be provided with a guide to help focus their grassroots advocacy.
With the 2010 midterm elections in November, elected representatives will be more concerned with their constituents’ interests because they have the greatest impact on reelections. The government is now playing a much larger and significant role in health care, so it is essential that AGA becomes more involved at the local level of politics. In order to achieve the best possible legislative success and effectiveness, all AGA members must take responsibility in educating their local representatives.
AGA will provide more information about this program in the near future. In the meantime, if you are interested in becoming an AGA Grassroots Advocate, please contact Lauren DePutter at ldeputter@gastro2.org or 240-482-3221.
