AGA Legacy Society Fosters the Future of GI
The AGA Research Foundation’s mission is to raise funds to support young researchers in gastroenterology and hepatology. Each year, the AGA Research Awards Program which offers nearly $1.5 million in research grants. The majority of the research grants are career development grants to support young investigators at the early stages of their career when the ideas are abundant, but the funding is lacking. These research grants are funded through the generosity of donors.
AGA Legacy Society members have made it possible to maintain the continuing relevance and effectiveness of the grants program. Their gifts expand AGA Research Foundation funding for GI research by fostering the careers of our best young investigators.
AGA Legacy Society members are proud to provide financial support to the organization that has given them so much in their career. “Far before it was fashionable and politically correct to do so, the AGA gave me, and others like me, support to improve our skills in study design and to conduct research,” states AGA Legacy Society member, Yvonne Romero, MD. "Thus, when the opportunity presented to support the AGA as part of the Legacy Society in 2010, I jumped at the chance. I am more than honored to lend support to a society that helps all trainees and members interested in research improve their methodology and advance science for the benefit of our patients, without regard to sex, age or ethnicity. I am a proud member of the AGA Legacy Society.”
