The Henry M. and Lillian Stratton Basic Research Single Topic Conference Stem Cells in Liver Diseases and Cancer: Discovery & Promise
Dates: March 19 & 20, 2011
Location: Atlanta, GA
Endorsed by the AGA Institute
Overview:
Recent studies suggest that a significant subset of hepatocellular cancers maybe arising from expansion and transformation of progenitor cells or “cancer stem cells.” This conference will highlight the timely and state-of-the-art research advances in stem cells in liver health and disease, including the development of strategies for early diagnosis and new therapeutics in stem cells in liver disease and cancer.
Goals and Objectives
- Examine important aspects of cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions in liver stem cell and cancer biology.
- Highlight basic concepts of liver stem cells and hepatocyte biology to attendees who are interested in this area of research, but not actively working in the liver disease and cancer fields.
- Generate interest from junior investigators in the area of stem cells and their link to liver diseases and cancer.
Target Audience
This conference will be beneficial to gastroenterologists, oncologists, surgeons, pathologists and epidemiologists.
