Managing Patients with GISTs in the Adjuvant and Metastatic Settings
Overview
Developed in cooperation with Medscape, this activity is designed to test participants current knowledge on the diagnosis, treatment, and risk assessment of patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs). Modeled on an interactive grand rounds approach, participants will be able to test their current knowledge of GISTs by answering cased-based questions. After each question, participants will be able to see whether they answered correctly and will have evidence-based information that supports the most appropriate answer choice. At the end of the case, there will be a short post-test assessment based on material covered in the activity.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Explain how to accurately diagnose GIST, including the identification of the expression and mutational status of KIT and platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha.
- Discuss the role of risk assessment and tumor mutational analysis in guiding treatment selection.
- Evaluate treatment approaches to GIST in the adjuvant setting, including surgery, tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy, and duration of therapy.
- Evaluate evidence-based first- and second-line treatment options for patients with metastatic GIST.
- Review data assessing the role of tumor mutational status in predicting primary and secondary resistance to tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy.
- Apply appropriate monitoring for patients with metastatic GIST to determine disease progression, resistance to therapy, and the need to adjust therapeutic strategy.
