About the Program

The AGA Institute's Investing in the Future: Clinical Research in IBD program is an exciting opportunity for GI fellows considering a career in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) clinical research. Selected fellows will be given a travel grant to apply towards attending DDW which will take place May 7-10, 2011 in Chicago, Illinois.

Now in its sixth year, this program has become recognized for its unsurpassed learning environment. Real-world guidance and expert insight on the opportunities within the field help serve the program's goal of fostering and encouraging promising fellows to pursue a clinical research career focused on IBD. This valuable experience gained at DDW, it is hoped, will lead fellows in that direction.

Selected participants can expect to:

  • Meet leaders in the field through dedicated programming and receptions.
  • Meet IBD-research mentors who will provide guidance during and after DDW.
  • Participate in a special agenda of relevant symposia and presentations.
  • Receive complimentary registration to AGA Institute's Spring Postgraduate Course, Emerging Concepts and their Practical Applications.

Eligibility requires that fellows must be nominated by their training director in order to apply. Training directors can only nominate GI fellows from their program whom they feel would benefit from this opportunity. Fellows must be existing members of the AGA or must attach a completed membership application with their application. Second year fellows are strongly encouraged to apply.

Fellows are expected to arrive on Friday, May 6 with plans to attend the AGA Institute's two-day Spring Postgraduate Course, which begins on Saturday, May 7. Selected fellows must attend the full program (May 7-10).

Each nominee is responsible for completing an application. Training directors are required to sign the application as an endorsement. The deadline to submit an application is Wednesday, Jan. 19. Applicants and their training directors will be notified of their application status on Tuesday, Feb. 1.

Fellows will be chosen from the pool of nominations by the course director.
