This travel award provides $750 to recipients who are young basic, translational, or clinical investigators residing outside North America to support travel and related expenses to attend Digestive Disease Week® (DDW).

AGA-Moti L. & Kamla Rustgi International Travel Award applicants must be active members of the AGA, and must be sponsored by an international AGA member in good standing to submit an application. The objective of this award is to stimulate interest in gastroenterology/hepatology research careers among young investigators outside of North American institutions by providing funds for travel and related expenses to attend DDW.    



  • Candidates for this award must hold an MD or PhD degree or a non-US equivalent degree (e.g. MB, ChB, MBBS, DO).
  • Candidates must be 35 years of age or younger at the time of DDW.
  • Candidates must be fluent in English.
  • Candidates residing in North America are ineligible for this award.
  • Applicants must be the first author of an abstract or the designated speaker of an oral presentation accepted by the AGA for presentation at DDW.
  • Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.



  • Applicants may only submit one abstract for consideration.
  • Abstracts must have been submitted to and accepted by the AGA.
  • Evidence of abstract/presentation acceptance to DDW must be presented at the time of application submission.
  • The award recipient must present the abstract/oral session. No exceptions are allowed.
  • Funds may be used offset travel costs and related expenses to attend DDW. Indirect costs are not allowed.

Applicants who have received a similar travel award to attend DDW using the same abstract submitted to AGA will be ineligible for consideration. 



Recipients will be selected based on the following criteria: significance, applicant’s credentials, innovation, approach, evidence of institutional commitment, and relevance to AGA’s mission.



A selection committee comprising members of the AGA Research Awards Panel will review the proposals and select the award recipients. Funding will commence July 2018.
