CGH Podcast August 2011: Early Fluid Resuscitation in Acute Pancreatitis - Strategies and Reduced Morbidity
Dr. Kuemmerle speaks to Dr. Timothy B. Gardner of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, who is a co-author of two papers appearing in the August issue of CGH. The first, entitled “Early Fluid Resuscitation Reduces Morbidity Among Patients With Acute Pancreatitis,” looks at the association between early fluid resuscitation and outcome of patients admitted to the hospital with acute pancreatitis. The second article, “Lactated Ringer's Solution Reduces Systemic Inflammation Compared With Saline in Patients With Acute Pancreatitis,” was a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the impact of a goal-directed fluid resuscitation protocol on systemic inflammation in patients with acute pancreatitis. We also recap a few of the top stories from this month's issue of GI and Hepatology News.
