AGA Leaders Participate in Alliance of Specialty Medicine Fly-In

July 10, 2014

AGA physicians J. Sumner Bell, MD, Joel V. Brill, MD, Carla Ginsburg, MD, Peter Margolis, MD, Rajeev Jain, MD, and Ronald Fogel, MD, (pictured at left) came to Washington as part of the Alliance of Specialty Medicine's annual legislative fly-in.

Physicians heard from an array of policy makers, regulators and members of Congress, including Rep. Raul Ruiz, D-CA, Sen. Tom Coburn, R-OK, Sen. Rand Paul, R-KY, and Rep. Fred Upton. AGA physicians met with more than 12 congressional offices where they discussed the need to permanently fix the SGR, the need for more transparency when setting physician payment values and the need to address physician workforce issues.

AGA physicians also spoke of the need to ensure patient access to colorectal cancer screening and highlighted the public health success story that colonoscopy and screening represents in decreasing the incidence of colorectal cancer. Congressional offices were interested in the issue of patient cost-sharing for screening colonoscopy and the barriers that prevent patients from accessing screening.

AGA thanks our physician advocates for taking time out of their busy schedules and practices to come to Washington to advocate on behalf of the profession.
