AGA Raises Concerns About Future Meaningful Use Requirements

February 12, 2013

AGA is committed to supporting members through practice transitions, like the adoption of electronic health records and meeting meaningful use requirements. Recently, we reviewed the HHS Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) HIT Policy Committee's preliminary recommendations for stage 3 of meaningful use, as well as their recommendations for future stages.

The AGA shares the goal of widespread EHR adoption. However, we remain concerned that future stages of the program will be difficult to meet if a physician has been unsuccessful in meeting stage one and stage two meaningful use requirements, which continues to be the case for the majority of physicians. The AGA asked the committee to consider the difficulty these physicians are facing when moving forward with future stage recommendations. We provided extensive comments, noting concerns with specific measures and measures details.
