URM Track Provides Networking, Learning Opportunities at DDW®

April 04, 2013

The AGA Underrepresented Minorities (URM) Committee has planned a new DDW® symposium, Pathways to Greater Diversity in Gastroenterology, to be held Monday, May 20, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. This career-development session aims to help participants navigate and succeed in the highly competitive field of medical academia. Attendees will learn about the skills necessary for a productive career in basic science or clinical research, become familiar with career milestones which will lay the foundation for a successful career as a physician-investigator and hear about the resources available through the AGA for career development. The session is supported by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (1R25DK096968-01).

In addition to the new symposium, the committee has identified several other DDW sessions that may be of interest to URMs:

  • Colon Cancer Screening in African Americans: Should We be Screening at an Earlier Age?, May 18
  • Sorcerers and Apprentices: An Evening Reception with AGA Mentors, May 18
  • Lo Mejor de DDW: The Best of AGA at DDW in Spanish, May 19
  • DDW Diversity Reception, May 20

Together, these sessions comprise a track that provides networking, disease awareness and career development opportunities for AGA's URM members. View complete details about these sessions, and download a printable brochure, on the AGA website.
