AGA Now Offers Direct Data Submission from Electronic Medical Records into Registry
Bethesda, MD (July 29, 2011) — The AGA Digestive Health Outcomes Registry® is the first gastroenterology registry to seamlessly integrate with most major electronic medical record (EMR) and endowriter systems. EMR integration means less data entry for participating providers and no disruption in practice workflow.
“The AGA Digestive Health Outcomes Registry is an important resource for gastroenterology health-care providers,” according to Joel V. Brill, MD, AGAF, chief medical officer, AGA Digestive Health Outcomes Registry. “One-touch integration with EMR systems makes it easy for practices to participate in the AGA Registry, through which they can benchmark their data against themselves and other practices to create a culture of improvement in the digestive health care of patients, and be eligible for quality incentive programs.”
The care of gastroenterology patients is often complex, and many gastroenterology practices use EMR systems that have been customized to meet their needs. In response, the AGA Registry, in coordination with FigMD, Inc., has established a software platform that allows gastroenterology practices to connect their EMRs and endowriter systems with the registry, without having to change their current systems.
Through the integration process, FigMD’s Quality Measurement and Improvement Solution Platform and the AGA have developed algorithms to identify the most commonly used key words within EMR systems. These algorithms allow AGA Registry participants to easily extract data from their EMRs without forcing users to change habits.
“The AGA Registry and FigMD recently completed a beta process for this software platform that helped us establish best practices for ensuring the highest fidelity of data is being accepted into the registry from registry participants,” said Sanket Baralay, CEO of FigMD. “We are ready today to work with practices interested in integrating their EMRs with the AGA Registry.”
The AGA Registry is the only gastroenterology registry to be certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), enabling practices to directly submit data for the CMS Physician Quality Reporting System for the hepatitis C measures group, with the potential of earning a Medicare bonus in 2011 and 2012.
The AGA Registry is a national outcomes-driven registry that allows clinicians to monitor and improve patient care, while also generating data to compare the efficacy of treatments and potentially increase reimbursement. The registry is open to all U.S.-based gastroenterological health-care professionals, and participation fees are assessed according to the number of clinicians within a practice who will participate in the registry. Modest additional fees apply for practices interested in integrating with the FigMD software platform.
