AGA Registry Focuses on IBD & CRC

April 13, 2010

In 2010, the AGA will launch the Digestive Health Outcomes Registry™, underscoring our commitment to helping gastroenterologists improve patient care.

Last fall, AGA announced the creation of this revolutionary national outcomes-driven registry. We’re now pleased to inform you that the registry will initially focus on both guidelines-driven management of IBD and effective strategies for colorectal cancer prevention.

The registry will allow you to monitor and improve the care you provide to patients, while also generating data to compare the efficacy of treatments and potentially increase reimbursement.

Sensitive to the current paperwork burden on practices, we are creating Web-based tools that will fit into your clinical practice workflow and planning for synchronization with electronic medical record systems.

A panel of gastroenterologists and a practice administrator are designing the registry and ensuring it is responsive to GI needs:

  • John Allen, MD, MBA, AGAF, Minnesota Gastroenterology, St. Paul
  • Joel Brill, MD, AGAF, Predictive Health, LLC, Phoenix, AZ
  • Brooks Cash, MD, AGAF, National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD
  • Themistocles Dassopoulos, MD, Washington University, St. Louis, MO
  • Daniel Demarco, MD, AGAF, Digestive Health Associates of Texas and Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas
  • John M. Inadomi, MD, AGAF, San Francisco General Hospital, CA
  • Vicky King, Practice Administrator, Borland-Groover Clinic, Jacksonville, FL
  • Barry Kisloff, MD, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, PA
  • Uri Ladabaum, MD, University of California, San Francisco
  • Richard Rood, MD, AGAF, University of Cincinnati, OH
  • Virender Sharma, MD, AGAF, Mayo Clinic, Arizona, Scottsdale/Phoenix

The mission of the Digestive Health Outcomes Registry is to improve patient health outcomes and cost effectiveness of digestive care using scientifically valid methods to collect, analyze and report clinically relevant data, empowering the health-care community to optimize quality of care.

After the initial registry is launched this spring, planning will begin for additional topics. For more information on the AGA Digestive Health Outcomes Registry, please contact Deborah Robin, senior director for quality at the AGA.
