Medicare extends exceptions to additional MIPS-eligible clinicians affected by hurricanes and wildfires.

CMS is expanding the list of counties that are eligible for a hardship exception for the 2017 Quality Payment Program (QPP) year. The "Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances" policy grants exceptions without having to submit an extraordinary circumstances exception request to Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS)-eligible clinicians. The new states/counties include: 
 
Alabama: Autauga, Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke, Dallas, Macon, Mobile and Washington 
Mississippi: George, Greene, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson and Stone 
California: Butte, Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Nevada, Orange, Santa Barbara, Solano, Sonoma, Ventura and Yuba
