Gastroparesis Treatment: The Future is Bright

Aug. 3, 2017

New drugs are in the pipeline. AGA white paper summarizes drug development for this condition.

Treatment of gastroparesis is a major unmet need in the U.S. But the tides are turning — experts feel that the future is brighter than it has ever been. As summarized in a new AGA white paper, Gastroparesis: Clinical and Regulatory Insights for Clinical Trials, published in the August issue of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology (CGH):

  • There is renewed interest from the pharmaceutical and device industry in gastroparesis drug development.
  • FDA has provided helpful guidance to industry.
  • Meaningful endpoints have been developed and validated.
  • There are several promising candidates in the drug development pipeline.

Here is a message for your patients with gastroparesis: there is a renewed focus on finding a treatment for gastroparesis that will alleviate your symptoms and improve your quality of life.

For additional insights into gastroparesis drug development, review the white paper.

The AGA Center for Diagnostics and Therapeutics developed this white paper to provide AGA members with a summary of the discussions that took place during its 2016 Drug Development Conference. You can read more about the process for developing this white paper in an editorial by Colin W. Howden, MD, AGAF, and Nimish B. Vakil, MD, AGAF, in CGH. Also available: white papers on GERD, EoE and functional dyspepsia.
