Happy Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

March 5, 2015

March is a great time to raise patient awareness of colorectal cancer screening. AGA has some easy resources to help you spread the word about the importance of screening.

March is a great time to raise patient awareness of colorectal cancer screening. The decrease in colorectal cancer deaths is a public health success story, and gastroenterologists need to continue the momentum to get 80 percent of eligible patients screened by 2018. Social media is a great way to reach out to patients and AGA will provide you easy resources throughout the month.

Dress in Blue Day
Tomorrow is national Dress in Blue Day™. Remember to share your pictures with us: communications@gastro.org. When posting to social media channels, tag AGA at @AmerGastroAssn and include the hashtag #DressInBlueDay.

Good news: the president has declared March as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, marking the second time in 13 years that the CRC community has secured this national recognition. The official proclamation recognizes the impact of the disease and states “we recognize all those who have been affected by this disease, and we renew our commitment to a lifesaving endeavor: raising awareness of colorectal cancer and the importance of screening.” AGA appreciates the presidential encouragement for “all citizens, government agencies, private businesses, non-profit organizations and other groups to join in activities that will increase awareness and prevention of colorectal cancer.”
