The AGA Research Foundation awarded Juan Gonzalez-Abraldes the 2015 AGA-Elsevier Pilot Research Award, which he will use to better understand the pathophysiology of portal hypertension in cirrhosis.

Specifically, Dr. Gonzalez-Abraldes will investigate the role of the gut derived metabolite propionate in the pathogenesis of portal hypertension.

Dr. Gonzalez-Abraldes, who recently moved to North America, said he is very thankful to the AGA Research Foundation for the grant, which will be "instrumental" in moving forward on his research in portal hypertension.
