Take Action: Contact Your Representative About Colorectal Cancer Screening

Aug. 18, 2015

Urge Congress to support maintaining access to CRC screening and reverse proposed Medicare cuts.

Earlier this summer, CMS proposed drastic cuts to the 2016 Medicare physician reimbursement rates for colonoscopy and other lower GI endoscopy procedures. AGA, ACG and ASGE are fighting for fair and accurate reimbursement for all lower endoscopy procedures, including colonoscopy.

Some good news — we have the support of some important members of Congress. Representatives Donald Payne Jr., D-NJ, and Leonard Lance, R-NJ, have asked their colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives to join them in expressing concern over two key issues:

  • Recently proposed Medicare payment cuts to colonoscopy.
  • Impact of the cuts on access to colorectal cancer screening, especially in light of recent gains made in access to this life saving procedure.

Please contact your Representative and urge him or her to sign this letter

Remember: Tell CMS to Reconsider the Cuts
On Aug. 12, the GI societies sent a tri-society alert urging members to voice their opposition to CMS over these proposed cuts. We thank the nearly 275 gastroenterologists who have already reached out to CMS about how these cuts will affect their patients and practice. But, CMS needs to hear more voices of GIs throughout the country. Comments on the proposed fee schedule rule are being accepted by CMS until Tuesday, Sept. 8. Read more about how to comment.

Please reach out to Congress and CMS today!
