About the Instructors

John G. Lieb, MD

Dr. Lieb is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine in the division of Gastroenterology and in the GI section at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical System.   Dr. Lieb is an interventional endoscopist and medical pancreatologist,  having trained under Drs. Phillip Toskes and Chris Forsmark at the University of Florida for GI fellowship from 2005- 2009 where he also did a year of clinical investigation training on a T32 grant.  He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania and received his M.D. and his Bachelor’s degree from the Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Lieb’s research interests focus on the early diagnosis of small duct chronic pancreatitis especially using the secretin stimulation test and other pancreatic function tests, diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic exocrine insufficiency, quality control in endoscopy/endoscopic outcomes, management of pancreatic cysts, and in acute pancreatitis.   His clinical interests are in advanced endoscopy and clinical care of patients with acute and chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts and cancer, biliary tract disease, advanced colonic, gastric, and duodenal polyps, Barrett’s esophagus, hereditary GI luminal diseases, endoscopic ultrasound, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography.  Dr. Lieb has been the co-chair of the National Pancreas Foundation fellows retreat,  has served on the AGA’s pancreatic abstract review committee for Digestive Disease Week, and has served on the ASGE’s quality in endoscopy committee for the past 3 years running.  He has authored or co-authored 8 original scientific publications and 13 review articles/invited editorials/book chapters.   He has been an invited speaker at many venues including several ASGE courses, American Pancreatic Association annual meetings, several state medical societies, the University of Virginia, at Digestive Disease Week, and at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
