The Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008, H.R. 6331, includes, for the first time, incentives to encourage the adoption of electronic prescribing technology by health-care providers. The act will provide positive Medicare payment incentives of up to 2 percent for practitioners who use qualified e-prescribing systems in 2009 through 2013 and a reduction in payments of up to 2 percent for providers who fail to e-prescribe by 2012.
By visiting www.GetRxConnected.com/AGA you will find:
- Information on the benefits of e-prescribing/pharmacy connectivity.
- An estimate of the value of the time your practice spends managing prescription renewal requests by phone/fax — time better spent on patient care, or other reimbursable activities.
- A listing of pharmacies in your area that can electronically exchange prescription information with your practice.
- A free, personalized report that indicates the compliance status of your existing practice software.
- A tool you can use with your technology vendor to request an electronic connection to pharmacies.
E-prescribing offers a secure exchange of prescription information between your PDA and/or practice computer and the computer at the pharmacy. It can significantly improve practice efficiency by reducing the number of phone calls and faxes associated with prescription refill requests. E-prescribing supports patient safety initiatives by reducing the potential risk of medication errors.
