Center for Quality in Practice

The AGA Center for Quality in Practice was launched July 2005 in response to the AGA Task Force on Quality report.

Mission

To enhance quality and safety in the practice of gastroenterology through the implementation of the recommendations of the AGA Task Force on Quality in Practice.

Oversight of the center and its advisory group is provided by the Clinical Practice and Quality Management Committee

Major Initiatives

  • Identify key quality-of-care indicators in the treatment of digestive diseases and determine how the indicators will be measured.
  • Develop resources to support quality management in GI practice including, information on quality improvement processes, evidence-based guidelines, performance measurement and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct a continuous review of emerging national quality and patient safety standards as they might be applicable to GI diseases.
  • Develop programs, tools and training programs for members to help them implement evidence-based guidelines and measure and report adherence to quality indicators.
  • Develop patient education materials to ensure that patients have appropriate expectations regarding high quality, patient-centered, evidence-based care.

Deborah Robin, MSN, RN, CHCQM, Senior Director for Quality

Deborah Robin, MSN, RN, CHCQM, has over 20 years of experience in nursing and health-care quality management. She is the senior director for quality and directs the AGA Center for Quality in Practice. Prior to joining the AGA, Ms. Robin was an independent health-care consultant, providing services to managed-care companies as well as a personal health information company. Her areas of expertise include quality improvement, regulatory compliance, project management, health-care policy and health information technology. She received both her BSN and MSN from The University of Maryland School of Nursing. Ms. Robin has been a diplomate of the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians since 1998.
