Eligibility Requirements & Dues

Membership is open to physicians, surgeons, scientists and other persons residing in North America (U.S., Canada and Mexico) who have: a demonstrated, continued interest in gastroenterology and have appropriate qualifications, certification and/or credentials in gastroenterology, gastroenterology education and/or graduate training (MD, PhD, ScD, DVM, DO or equivalent).

Physicians & Scientists in Mexico

AGA is dedicated to providing resources for gastroenterologists around the world. As part of this mission, we introduced a new tiered dues structure that gives members in developing countries access to our benefits at a reduced rate.

The reduced dues eligibility is determined using the World Bank’s country classifications. The list of eligible countries is updated annually prior to billing for the upcoming year's dues.

AGA offers GI physicians and scientists the option to join as an International Member to receive journals by mail and online or if residing in certain countries (based on World Bank Country Classification) the option to join as an International Corresponding Member for reduced dues and to receive the AGA journals online-only. There is also the option to become an International Affiliate Member for only $40 per year. See below for further details.

International membership applications are available translated into Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish.

Eligibility Requirements

Membership is open to physicians, surgeons, scientists and other persons residing outside North America who meet one or more of the following criteria and have one of the following degrees or certifications (MD, PhD, ScD, DVM, DO or equivalent):

  • A physician or scientist with a faculty appointment in gastroenterology.
  • Published articles clearly related to gastroenterology in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Completed an analogous postgraduate training program outside North America in gastroenterology.
  • A demonstrated professional commitment to gastroenterology, such as through membership in a national society with a special interest in peer-reviewed gastroenterology, specialized practice or function in gastroenterology, research, participation in training of physicians in gastroenterology, or other evidence as may be applicable.

For Corresponding Membership Only

The reduced dues eligibility is determined using the World Bank’s country classifications, which are based on the economic status of an applicant’s country of residence. Please view the charts to determine your member category. If your country of residence is not listed, you are not eligible for international corresponding membership.

Eligibility Requirements & Dues

Trainees Residing in North America (U.S., Canada or Mexico)

Membership is open to any resident, fellow or trainee residing in North America (U.S., Canada, or Mexico) who has completed at least two years of postdoctoral training in internal medicine or a closely related specialty area and who is continuing formal training in gastroenterology; or any scientist, researcher or student with a post baccalaureate degree who is pursuing a full-time postgraduate degree or program of study concentrating on gastroenterology.

Annual dues: first year free; $95 for remaining years of fellowship.

Eligibility Requirements & Dues

Medical Residents Residing in North America (U.S., Canada or Mexico)

Membership is open to any medical resident residing in North America (U.S., Canada, or Mexico) who is continuing formal training in medicine; or any scientist, researcher or student with a post baccalaureate degree who is pursuing a full-time postgraduate degree or program of study concentrating in medicine. Applicant must include an attestation from the program director, medical director or appropriate certifying office.

Annual dues: $75 for each year of medical residency.
