DESCRIPTION

This travel award provides $500 and one $1,000 prize to recipients who are MD and/or PhD postdoctoral fellows presenting posters/oral sessions at Digestive Disease Week® (DDW).

 

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this award is to stimulate interest in gastroenterology/hepatology research careers by providing funds to MD and/or PhD postdoctoral fellows, who are active trainee members of the AGA, for travel and related expenses to attend DDW.  The top ranked abstract will be selected as Abstract of the Year and the recipient will receive a $1,000 prize.

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Candidates for this award must be a MD and/or PhD postdoctoral fellow at an institution in North America, and an active trainee member of AGA. Please visit www.gastro.org or call 301-654-2055, extension 651, for membership information.
  • Students and medical residents are ineligible for this award.
  • Fellows outside of North America are ineligible for this award.
  • Applicants must be the first author of an abstract or the designated speaker of an oral presentation accepted by the AGA for presentation at DDW.
  • Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants may only submit one abstract for consideration.
  • Abstracts must have been submitted to and accepted by the AGA.
  • Evidence of abstract/presentation acceptance to DDW must be presented at the time of application submission.
  • The award recipient must present the abstract/oral session. No exceptions are allowed.
  • Funds may be used offset travel costs and related expenses to attend DDW. Indirect costs are not allowed.
  • Applicants must be MD and/or PhD postdoctoral fellows who are active trainee members of AGA. Please visit www.gastro.org or call 301-654-2055, extension 651, for membership information.

AWARD OVERLAP

Applicants who have received a similar travel award to attend DDW using the same abstract submitted to AGA will be ineligible for consideration. 

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

Recipients will be selected based on the following criteria: significance, applicant’s credentials, innovation, approach, evidence of institutional commitment, and relevance to AGA’s mission.

 

REVIEW PROCESS

A selection committee comprising members of the AGA Research Awards Panel will review the proposals and select the award recipients. Funding will commence July 2018.
