How Does Cologuard Stack Up to Colonoscopy?

March 12, 2015

The latest issue of AGA Perspectives debates the role of Cologuard in the colorectal cancer screening continuum.

In honor of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, the February/March issue of AGA Perspectives focuses on the detection and prevention of the disease. In the point/counter-point, Steven Itzkowitz, MD, FACP, FACG, AGAF, argues that Cologuard offers a viable screening alternative to colonoscopy, while Uri Ladabaum, MD, MS, counters that while Cologuard should not replace colonoscopy, it does have a place in the colorectal cancer screening continuum.

An additional article of interest focuses on the controversial topic of colorectal cancer screening in the elderly and how to manage the potential harms of screening in those with limited life expectancy, by Robert S. Sandler, MD, MPH, AGAF.
