Join AGA in Raising CRC Awareness This March

AGA is committed to raising awareness and increasing screening rates for colorectal cancer. For Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, there are a number of ways you can join us to help make it happen.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. AGA is making our voice heard on social media and in the consumer press to spread the word about the importance of being screened for CRC. AGA, along with the American Cancer Society and a coalition of colorectal cancer awareness groups, is committed to screen 80 percent of eligible Americans by 2018. This is achievable. Join us in raising awareness.

  • Spread the word online — download this Facebook cover photo and share via social media or on your practice’s website.
  • Encourage your staff to participate in the national Dress in Blue Day™, March 6, 2015. Share your pictures with us: communications@gastro.org. When posting to social media channels, tag AGA at @AmerGastroAssn and include the hashtag #dressinblueday.
  • AGA is working with the Colon Cancer Alliance and EveryDay Health on a Twitter chat highlighting colon cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. Join the chat on Twitter on Tuesday, March 3, at 1 p.m. ET. Follow the chat using hashtag: #HealthTalk.
  • Learn about legislation supported by AGA that would correct the colonoscopy “cost sharing” problem for Medicare patients. Under Medicare coding rules, removal of any polyp reclassifies the screening as a therapeutic procedure for which patients must pay coinsurance. The Removing Barriers to Colorectal Cancer Screening Act, legislation introduced by Rep. Charlie Dent, R-PA, and Sherrod Brown, D-OH, would correct this cost sharing problem for Medicare patients by waiving the co-insurance for a screening colonoscopy, regardless of the outcome.
