What is Your Biggest Weakness?

Feb. 26, 2018

Advice to help you answer this question and perfect your interviewing skills when interviewing for your next GI position.

How do you prepare for those kind of interview questions? Is there a difference in how you prepare for phone interviews versus face-to-face interviews? Lynn Connolly, MD, MSCR, addressed these and other common interview questions at a recent AGA Regional Practice Skills Workshop. She provided a wealth of actionable tips to help you excel before, during and after an interview including what to do:

  • Before the interview
    • Research the people who will interview you so that you have appropriate questions ready.
    • Clean up your social media account and make sure to Google yourself.
    • Have sales pitch about yourself ready.
  • During the interview
    • Have responses ready for the most common interview questions but make sure not to sound rehearsed.
    • Be polite and respectful to everyone.
    • Dress professionally.
  • After the interview
    • Send thank you note or email within 24-48 hours that shows you were actively engaged.
    • Don’t post about your interview on social media.

Dr. Connolly's full presentation, which goes into further details with practical examples, is available as a member benefit (login required).
